Jitsi Install the app, but you don't need to sign up or create an account. The first one creates a room and gives the name to the other ones or you can add more people with just pressing the plus.

appear.in: You can use it spontaneous. Not a long preparation time needed.

jitsi: You can use it spontaneous. Not a long preparation time needed.

Technical part:

Appear.in: On IOS devices you have to install an app for it. The Android users can just enter via google chrome.

Your data is not saved at all it is just a peer to peer data transfer. (An Advantage compared to skype) You can only talk with up to 4 people.

Jitsi: all users need to download the app. You can invite as many people as you want. You can close the room. There are more options when you use a desktop version then your phone. You can chat, share notes, open documents, special features etc.

Benefit for teacher/ Benefit for learner (pedagogical approach):

You can offer talking appointments with your student on short notice. You don't neet any technical backround. Students don't need to show up in person, which is also good for part time students.

Role of the teacher + role of the student

There aren't different roles for the teacher or the students.
