She has over 25 years experience in the design, delivery and evaluation of distance and online learning in post-compulsory education and Geographical Information Systems. Her research explores teachers’ and learners’ experiences of technology enhanced learning, and has included mobile learning, virtual classrooms, online collaboration and research supervision. Sarah is project lead for the University of Aberdeen’s MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) partnership with Futurelearn, which fits well with her aspirations to see technology used effectively to widen and improve learning opportunities for adult and professional learners.

She has designed and taught blended and wholly online undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Her research has included the use of mobile devices in primary and secondary schools, and technology-enabled professional learning such as Massive Open Online Courses for Community Learning and Development practitioners. Most recently she has been involved in the development of podcasts to improve access to parentcraft (antenatal) education in the Scottish highlands. She is keen to help people use technologies when it is appropriate for pedagogical reasons.
